There are several craters in the world , many of them caused by man , mainly in mining activities. The largest craters created by man in the earth's crust can be seen in the open in countries like Russia, the United States, Canada , Chile , among others.

These craters cause major environmental concern , because it directly affects the soil , groundwater , rivers , fauna and human life . The environmental impact is extreme .

Meet the 9 largest craters caused by man:

1 - Mir mine - the world's navel call , the crater is huge , with about 525 meters deep and 1,200 meters wide. The crater is in Siberia , in the town of Mirny , and is used to extract diamonds. The hole is so large that it disrupts air traffic in the region . The Mir was extensively explored between the years 1957 and 2001 .

2 - Chuquicamata - This open pit mine is the largest in Chile. It was once considered the world's largest operating mine producing 29 million tons of copper . The crater is 4.3 km in length and 850 meters deep.

3 - Berkeley Pit - This ancient copper mine operated from 1955 to 1982. The crater is 270 meters deep.
